Overview
The Foundation Programme (Engineering) serves as a necessary bridging and/or articulation course between high school and higher engineering education, within the Academic Institute of Excellence. The programme introduces learners to a number of Mathematics, Engineering Science and other topics required for admission to a practical undergraduate certificate or professional higher diploma programme. The programme is aimed at assisting students who do not meet the minimum requirement for admission into Higher Education programmes, or to act as a skill-strengthening course.
The programme has 3 foundational goals
- To create a sound learning foundation by expanding the knowledge base and skills of the student in the relevant subject areas.
- To assist the student in building a strong portfolio of work.
- Supporting students by introducing and exploring the various disciplines within the relevant field of study.
Who are they designed for? If you plan to study a Practical Higher Certificate (NQF5) or an Engineering Diploma (NQF6) or a Bachelor's (NQF7) and do not meet the entry requirements, you would first need to complete this Foundation Programme. It is important to note the following:
- The Foundation programme is meant as a bridge into Higher Certificates NQF5, Diploma at NQF6 and Bachelor's NQF7 programmes.
- The Foundation programme is NOT meant as an exit-level programme.
- The Foundation programme's structure and content follow all moderation and quality assurance policies to ensure an aligned and solid foundation for articulation.
- You need 50%+ for maths and science to articulate into our Higher Certificate in Engineering NQF5, and Diploma in Engineering NQF6 programmes, and 60% for maths and science to articulate into Bachelor's NQF7 programmes.
