Overview

The Foundation Programme in Information Technology is designed to provide students with fundamental knowledge and essential skills required to pursue further studies or entry-level careers in the IT field. This programme introduces students to core computing principles, communication skills, mathematical literacy, and specialized IT topics, ensuring a well-rounded foundation for future success.

Students will develop competency in foundational computer systems, programming, networking, and cloud technologies while enhancing problem-solving and analytical skills. The programme is structured to be completed over six months, equipping learners with the necessary academic and practical competencies to transition smoothly into more advanced IT qualifications.

The increasing reliance on technology in all industries necessitates a strong foundational understanding of IT concepts. This Foundation Programme in Information Technology is designed to:

  • Bridge the gap between secondary education and higher-level IT studies by providing essential knowledge in computing, communication, and problem-solving.
  • Develop students' critical thinking, computational skills, and technical proficiency in areas such as programming, cloud computing, and mathematics literacy.
  • Prepare students for further studies in IT-related fields, ensuring they have the necessary skills and academic grounding to progress into diploma or degree programmes.
  • Support learners who may not have prior exposure to IT by offering a structured learning pathway that gradually introduces key concepts and industry-relevant competencies.

Who are they designed for?: If you plan to study a practical Quality Council For Trades & Occupations (QCTO) NQF5 qualification without meeting the entry requirements, we recommend completing a foundational programme first. It is important to note the following:

  • The foundational programmes are meant as a bridge into our NQF5 programmes, it is not meant as a exit level
  • The foundational programmes are not accredited by any education quality committee, nor does it carry any NQF level
  • The foundational programme's structure and content follows all moderation and quality assurance policies to ensure an aligned and solid foundation for articulation.
