Overview
The Higher Certificate in Information Technology in Computer Systems and Networking (NQF5) provides students with a solid foundation in the skills required to install, configure, secure, and maintain computer systems and networks. The programme combines computer skills, mathematics for IT, and computer systems fundamentals with specialised modules in operating systems, networking, cloud computing, virtualization, and systems administration. Learners gain practical, hands-on experience in building and troubleshooting networks, managing servers, implementing backup solutions, and supporting users in business environments. A strong emphasis is also placed on computer network security, introducing students to threat detection, vulnerability assessment, and secure administration practices.
Graduates leave the programme with both the technical knowledge and practical competence to succeed in entry-level roles such as IT support technician, junior systems administrator, network administrator assistant, or cybersecurity support analyst. The qualification also features a capstone project, allowing learners to integrate their skills in real-world scenarios and demonstrate their industry readiness. This Higher Certificate not only opens doors to immediate employment but also provides a clear pathway to further studies in advanced networking, cybersecurity, and cloud specialisations.
