Overview
The Higher Certificate in Information Technology in Cybersecurity Analyst (NQF5) is a 120-credit Higher Education qualification at NQF Level 5, accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE).
The Higher Certificate in Information Technology in Cybersecurity Analyst programme provides students with the knowledge and practical expertise to protect, monitor, and secure computer systems and networks in today’s technology-driven environments. Foundational modules such as Computer Skills, Business English, and Mathematics for IT establish core competencies, while specialised modules in Cybersecurity Governance, Risk, and Compliance; Basic and Advanced Networking; Cloud Computing; and Operating Systems ensure learners develop a comprehensive technical grounding. Students also build hands-on expertise in Vulnerability Assessment and Risk Analysis, Digital Forensics and Incident Response, and Computer Security and Penetration Testing, equipping them with the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate security threats.
Practical training is integrated throughout, enabling learners to configure and secure networks, conduct vulnerability scans, analyse digital evidence, and simulate penetration tests using industry-standard tools. The programme culminates in a Capstone Project, allowing students to apply their knowledge to real-world cybersecurity scenarios. Graduates are well-prepared for entry-level roles such as cybersecurity analyst, SOC technician, digital forensics assistant, or junior penetration tester, while also having a strong foundation for further study in advanced cybersecurity and information assurance fields.
