Architectural Practical Programs

Only 2% of all private and public TVET colleges have the facilities and capabilities to offer a practical component with their engineering studies, BUT a staggering 90% of the students that receives practical are employed. Students will participate in an optional program where they will be hosted in an external workshop. During this time they will design various components and carry this design all the way through the manufacturing process. Extra cost applies to Part-Time and Online students only.

Open Days

Foundation

This is an important and compulsory module for all student and a prerequisite for all the other modules. Workshop environments contain numerous tools and machinery that are potentially harmful and deadly if used incorrectly and it is imperative that learners follow the processes and procedures as set out by the instructors.

Module 1: Health and Safety and File Preparation

  • Introductory health and safety in workshop spaces
  • Civil Land Surveying
  • Plumbing and Reticulation
  • Electrical Installation

Introduction to Industry Practices

The purpose of this module is to provide learners with underpinning knowledge to work in the industry. This workshop will introduce learners to the basics of designing, setting out and creating of plumbing, electical or civil/building systems. The learner will learn how to design the most efficient layout, how to select the appropriate materials and fittings and how to properly set out the design.

Module 2: Plumbing and Reticulation

  • Small scale piping/fixtures and geysers to be 3D Printed and tested in the model
  • Designing a basic piping layout with a gully and trap
  • Excavation and pipe lying
  • Pipe run testing

Module 3: Electrical Installation

  • Small scale Conduiting to be laid in the model and connected to 12V electrical system
  • Designing a basic domestic circuit with lights, plug sockets and 1 / 2-way switches
  • Understanding on-site connections to a Distribution Board
  • Planning and executing of basic conduit installation
  • Wire / cable installation
  • Basic Circuit testing

Module 4: Building/Civil

  • Real Scale land surveying on campus with model scale notations to be made in the lab
  • Surveying a low sloped site
  • Measurement and drawing

Introduction to Makerslab

This workshop will introduce learners to the basics of the software needed to operate CNC machines, 3D Printing and Laser Cutters.

Module 5: Software

  • Fusion 360
  • Autocad

Module 6: Practical Introduction

  • Model Making
  • 3D Printing
  • Laser Cutting

Intermediate Industry Practices

The purpose of this module is to provide learners with the practical skills to work in the industry. This workshop will dive deeper into the designing, setting out and creating of plumbing, electical or civil/building systems. The learner will use appropriate materials and fittings and test their piping systems, electrical installations and do real scale surveying.

Module 7: Plumbing and Reticulation

  • Small scale piping/fixtures and geysers to be 3D Printed and tested in the model
  • Designing a moderate piping layout with a rodding eyes and inspection chambers
  • Excavation and pipe lying
  • Pipe run testing

Module 8: Electrical Installation

  • Small scale Conduiting to be laid in the model and connected to 12V electrical system
  • Designing a moderate domestic circuit with lights, plug sockets and 1 / 2-way switches
  • Understanding on-site connections to a Distribution Board
  • Planning and executing of basic conduit installation
  • Wire / cable installation including connection types
  • Basic Circuit testing

Module 9: Building/Civil

  • Real Scale land surveying on campus with model scale notations to be made in the lab
  • Surveying a moderate sloped site with curbing and landscape features
  • Measurement and drawing
  • View our students in action.

Makerslab Intermediate Training

This workshop will give learners the opportunity to test out their knowledge on the CAD software and to operate the CNC machines, 3D Printing and Laser Cutters, with a guide to service and troubleshoot.

Module 10: Software

  • Fusion 360
  • Autocad

Module 11: Practical Introduction

  • CNC Routing
  • Introduction to Basic CNC Routing
  • Machine operation, servicing & troubleshooting
  • Materials - MDF and Pine
  • The cutting process

Module 12: Intermediate Training

  • 3D Printing
  • Laser Cutting

Practical Completion

Upon completion of the practical modules the learners will no prepare their work in order to submit for practical credits.
